Post Hi - I am new to this site....

Hello,

I live in Perth in Western Australia - we have been in Oz since 1973 having emigrated from UK after 12 years in the RN - worked in the Mining and Construction industries - still working. Have enjoyed a good rum since drawing my tot in the Navy - prefer Guyana style rum - not a great deal of choice in WA (not that I have found anyway) so get relatives or bring in bottles of Woods 100 (57%) - when ever I am in the UK. I would be interested to know of similar styles of Rum that are more readily available... cheers Pete.

Welcome aboard oldseadog. More than a couple of members hail from Oz.

Welcome to the forums, you might try looking for Holey Dollar Rum. Their overproof rum isn't the same as Wood's but it has a lot of character and is probably more like the Guyanese rums than the others from Australia.

Yesterday I was contacted by a couple of Australian importers about doing a rum seminar tour down under. I'd love to get back to Perth. 25 years ago I watched the Americans lose the America's Cup to Australia in a bar in Freemantle. My Australian friends told me just keep drinking and don't say and a word and we'll keep you out of trouble. Coming from a bunch of guys that I'd just spent three weeks with on an oil rig in Papua New Guinea, I took their advice and kept mum though it was killing me that there was a table of women nearby who were being completely ignored by my new mates. When in Oz and the Americans are loosing the biggest yacht race in history, do as you're told.

I later learned that it is tradition to ignore women in Australian bars, then I found out that one of the women was married to one of my friends. For once in my life, I actually did what I was told to do.
