373 years ago in 1647, there were 120 drinking houses in Bridgetown, Barbados, only 20 years after the first British colony was established on the island.

Question Antique rum pitcher/pot

I recently found an antique rum pitcher made circa 1880-1890.

picture online: http://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedi...s-rum-pot-eapg

Although it looks like it has a lid, it is really one piece of glass that was blown in a mold. The only way to fill is using a funnel through the spout.

Was wondering if anyone had any information about this type of container, and any insight into why it was designed this way.
