Default Appleton Rum Reserve and 12 Year

Is it just me or has Appleton gone from Bourbon style rum to a sweeter formula. I recently tried the Reserve and the 12 Year and they seemed sweeter. Now I'm opposed to a sweet rum but each one has their place.
