Default Wood's Navy Rum

Is anyone familiar with Wood's Navy Rum? I don't see a listing for the brand here in the Ministry's index. It has been described in another forum as one of the best example of the so-called Navy Rums in the market, and as being a demerara rum as well. Wood's seems to be available in both the UK & Canada.

Cheers,

Wood's Navy is widely available in the UK, but I've not tried it. These threads contain a little info on it:

I've become a fan of Wood's since picking up a bottle duty free passing through Heathrow during a trip (about 17GBP for a 1L bottle I think). Unfortunately unavailable in the U.S. The bottles I've been picking up at Heathrow are bottled at 57%.

It's not a sipping rum but instead works very well in a variety of Tiki drinks. It's in the same ballpark as Lemon Hart but has a (what I think is a pleasant) burn compared to Lemon Hart. Even in comparison to the Lemon Hart 151. I think of the Lemon Hart blending as being more refined than the Woods. That doesn't mean that one is better / worse than the other. Instead, they've each got their own place. If you do stumble across a bottle somewhere, I think definitely worth the purchase.

Like a few other so-called Demerara rums, Woods has evolved into a blend of rums and according to my sources in Guyana it isn't all Guyanese rum anymore.

Historically, Navy Rums were blends of rums from different islands but since a few bottlers have been labeling their rums Demerara when they aren't actually made with Demerara rum I expect that name will disappear from their label in the future.

I haven't added Wood's to the database because I haven't been able to get any reliable information from the bottler. When I make a good contact I'll certainly add it to the list.

When I dream up a better job, I'm going to take it. In the meantime, the research continues.
