Unhappy online rum sales?

My favorite source for wine and rum purchases online, "Samswine.com" in Chicago, just lowered their selection of rums from over 100 to just 29. And most of them unfortunately start with B.

Does anyone else order rums online? Please share with me your source.

Mike

P.S. I just finished my wonderful bottle of Tortuga 5 year old I brought back from the Caymans, and when I tried ordering it from a local liquor store that carries (unaged) Tortuga rum, I was stymied. Apparently, the local distributer of Tortuga told the liquor store "that rum doesn't exist".

There is another major store in Chicago, Binny's that hasn't cut back on their rum shelf.

It's not surprising for distributor sales people to tell their customer that a product doesn't exist if they don't have it readily available. I've had distributor people tell me that Cruzan Estate Diamond wasn't sold in the US by their California distributor. It's not uncommon for big distributors to get bonuses for quotas on certain products during which time you'll have a hard time getting them to even write an order for another product they carry.

Look for El Dorado 5 year old, it's comparable and may be cheaper.

After looking at the Sams website, I believe they are probably updating their website. I know they have a lot more than the 29 rums listed on their site. I'd give them a call if there are looking to buy something that you've bought in the past.

What Ed said.

Not everything can be covered on the web. It isn't likely that the salesperson who knows the subject is who is programing and updating the web. It sounds like a section of the website is missing - I'm pretty sure they stock more rums than what is listed.

There are also other links including Sams to the left of the screen (my screen) that deliver rums.

Default online stores

i have had great luck with hitimewine.net. Excellent choices in rum (over 150) and very good shipping. They have some sales going on all the time. I have bought by the case when the price is hot.
