Smile Rum newbie from Belgium

Hi,

I'm Jan from Belgium.
I have no large experience in drinking rum. I used to drink common rums I found in the local stores, but am looking to expand (read "start") my knowledge and rum collection.

A few years ago I visited Haiti and besides all the misery I saw there, I learned to appreciate a good rum cocktail there, specially when they were accompanied with home-grilled peanuts

I just bought a bottle Bacardi 8, it was the only one of the Golden Medals Premium Rums list I could find in the liquor store here.
About that store, they have a seperate section for whisky and scotch another one for wines and ports and lot's of beer (what's perfectly normal here in Belgium) but only a few shelfs with rum.
Every now and then they organize whisky or wine tasting evenings, but I never saw them having a rum tasting evening

As a true Belgium I appreciate a good (Belgian) beer, besides rum.
I mostly like brown abbey beers and trappists.

That's it...

Welcome to the forums. Trappists ales are just one of my other vices. Take some time to peruse the forums and I know you'll find some other suggestions for rums that you can find in your area.

welcome vdjan!

you will definitely gain rum knowledge looking around in this site. enjoy the reading and our witty (OK, not so witty) banter and ask questions anytime!

BTW - rum is obviously a favorite of everyone here - but I would never trust a person who doesn't like a beer from Belgium!

Welcome aboard my friend. Good choice with the Bacardi 8, its a favorite of mine especially when you factor in the price. Way to go with the trappist beers, actually, just about anything I've tried from Belgium was great.
