Appleton 50 Year Old Jamaican Rum - Jamaican Independence Reserve, every few years a rum comes across my desk that truly exceeds my expectations. This is one of them. Here's more about this rum.

I bought a $2,000 bottle of rum, and so far the only occasion I can think of special enough to open it is my own wake.
To be worthy of opening a $5,000 bottle of rum you would have to cure cancer and have sex with every member of Cirque du Soleil simultaneously while blowing up the Death Star.

I found my favorite age ranges seem to be in the 10 to 20 or 15 to 25 year old stuff (rum, whisky, etc). Even if I was in the seven figure salary range I would not bite.

To be honest, I think this is more for collectors, diplomats, rich people who don't care, and possibly gifts by Appleton to favoured or powerful people: I cannot imagine regular drinkers like us, no matter how wealthy, deliberately dropping that much on a bottle.
That said, I do have a sample of the 50 yr old that I mean to write about....stay tuned.

I have left instructions in my will for my grieving (?) widow to take the insurance settlement, find a bottle of this and toast my memory with my friends...both of them. There is no way I could spend $5k on a bottle of rum while I'm still kicking around. That said, I'm game for a road trip if anyone has a bottle and wants my opinion...

Appleton 50 Review is available
It must be said...a really good rum, better by far than the 30 year old.
