Okay well not EXACTLY! However, my wife did track down some One Barrel Rum from Belize for me for my birthday with help from this site and then told me about it. It is really great that a place like this exists. I tried to find that rum a few years ago and I couldn't find a US distributor. Apparently there is one now because I have four bottles of the stuff on my bar, and there is a significant chunk missing of the first one missing after one day (could not help myself, its been A LONG time!).

At any rate, it looks like there is a lot of information here to bone up on, which is great. I can't say that I am an "expert" just that I have always liked Rum. A year ago or so, I got a bit more serious about finding exactly what I wanted and trying some new things. I think maybe it was the One Barrel that put me on that path years ago. A magical trip to San Pedro, Belize on the Isle of Ambergris Caye. The bottle looks cheap, but the rum stuck with both of us.

I like dark rums mostly, but they are hard to find, at least decent ones are. I don't like Meyers. I like Captain Special, but that isn't true dark. I have like the Bacardi Anejo and darks. Right now, the one that I am consistently drinking after trying rums in my local store from Barbados, Jamaica, Virgin Islands, and many other places is Rhum Barbancourt, a Haitian rum, which is offered in 4, 8, and 15 Year ages. I am sure many of you know what I am talking about. It is currently my favorite. And truth to tell, in my local store, I have tried them all and they are all garbage compared to that. Now I have my One Barrel, and I am told of a Five barrell, which my wife got info on from this site I believe. I bet that there are a lot of you that can tell me of some good rums to check out based on what I just told you, so I am looking forward to it!

Yeah, I am sure that to some "rum purists" I am not saying that I know of any "purists" bashing it, being new to the site, but I can guess that some would consider it a "cheap" rum, and there are always people that are very in to some things and maybe wouldn't appreciate the same things in that Rum as others would. Different strokes and all that! And cheap it IS, but maybe you have to go to Belize, meet the people and catch the BUZZ. I have been all over the Caribbean,and no place can match the people of Belize in terms of friendliness, openness, and just plain love for life. At least on the isles. Yeah, it isn't aged in an oak barrel for 15 years, it isn't presented in numbered barrels, or stoppered with a cork, but I love it. I like the unique flavor, I like the caramel flavoring, and I like what it represents. The true "spirit" of rum and no pretenses.

As to the Seal.. You hit on the ONE rum I didn't try at my store. I Don't know why I didn't. I think it was because of the "english nautical" (if I am thinking of the right one) motif it had going for it, for some reason that turned me off, but now I will BE SURE to try it!
