Good article. I believe in the idea that a good spirit should have fine taste - not a lack of taste! And good cocktails should "feature" the spirit, not become something to be served where after one sip, the imbiber says, "Wow... this is great, you can't even tell there is alcohol in this."
I find it interesting that one pays super premium prices for a spirt that is supposed to taste like "nothing". I like vodka, but I'm not going to buy a $50 bottle of something that touts being free of any taste. What's the point?
$50 can buy a hell of a full-flavored rum.
