LOL - most people don't know where Chili Palmer comes from...

Those of us who have read an Elmore Leonard mystery or two know that Chili Palmer doesn't come from Boise or Coeur d'Alene at least.

LOL...what's funny is her and I used to hang out with the same people back in high school (20 years ago) but we went to different schools so we never met; then she came to work for our company about 4 years ago and we started talking - small world...

And I've been happily married for 17 years (ok, maybe happily for 10 of those years ).

Hey forrest - give my props to Trayce; as mentioned he pointed me to the Dos Maderas 5+3 and I had the chance to try it out last night. I took the time to try it neat, on the rocks and in a rum/coke combo (technically Dt. Pepsi - not a fan of Coke). As I mentioned to him I'm new to this Rum stuff (Liquor in general actually) and have primarily stuck with Capt. Morgan and/or Bacardi so I was a little afraid to go outside of my realm but I was pleasantly surprised with how it turned out. The 5+3 had a good taste and went down smooth. I see people talk about tasting different flavors (almonds, cinnamon, etc.) in Rums and unfortunately my taste buds are not skilled enough for that so my next step is to find a book and do some reading.

I also stopped by our local Idaho state run liquor store today and found out they have some pretty good Rum's on their list (which can be found in .pdf file here the Rums begin on page 21) so I picked up a Pyrat XO today and the lady that works there is going to pick up a Cruzan Single Barrell from a store across town that she lives by and bring it to this store - I should be picking that up in the next week or so! My ultimate goal is to get a minimum of 3 each dark/white/and possibly flavored rums so I can begin learning the difference between them i.e. what does Pyrat XO taste like compared to the Dos Maderas 5 + 3 and how to tell the different flavors within the Rums...

Enough typing...off to do some more "research"...

Quick question...Which Appleton Estates (darks only) on that list from the link above would you guy's recommend?

For me, I like the Appleton V/X for mixing, and I hope to always have a bottle of the 12 year Appleton Estate Extra for sipping.

Well i am going to echo LCchemist (as i am sure most of us here at MoR will) the V/X, and the Estate 12, are both wonderful-- i am going to amplify and include that i have done an awful lot of sipping of the V/X.

Oh yeah, i looked at your pdf, and you have a nice bit of "research" ahead of you!
