Default What is a good quality Dark Rum?

I'm thinking similar quality to Laphraoig Whiskey.

There are so many! Try El Dorado 5 year old, 8 year old or 15 year old. You might find the 12 year old a little too sweet. If you want something really dark and strong, there's Wood's Navy Rum - distilled at the same distillery as El Dorado but blended and bottled in the UK.

Then there's Mount Gay Extra Old from Barbados, Barbancourt (4 year old and 8 year old) from Haiti, English Harbour 5 year old from Antigua and lots and lots of others. I've only mentioned some of my favourites - other people will have different preferences.

It all depends on how dark is dark? The darkest rums are the so called Navy rums such as Wood's, Pusser's and Lamb's. If you include gold or amber rums, i.e. anything that isn't white, then there are hundreds if not thousands to choose from.

I like Malteco 15yr and Appleton estate 12 yr as dark sippers. And El Dorado 12 yr old. I think that a good quality dark rum is good for mixing and sipping neat both.
