I like the idea of crused ice for the Mai Tai. As good as that sounds, I have not tried it - will give it a go tonight maybe.

For the Rum N' Ginger: Rum N' Ginger Beer (Dark & Stormy) is also a great drink. Needs quality ginger beer to make the drink however.

Crushed ice versus cubes..if you use crushed ice the ice will shill the drink much faster and consequently it will take longer for the ice to melt and dilute the drink.I have tried both to compare and cubes melt faster.
But when I want to sip a rum with ice I use one ice cube because here I want the ice to melt a bit..

Hemingway Daiquiri

3 oz. light rum
1/2 oz. maraschino liqueur
1/2 oz. simple syrup
1-1/2 oz. grapefruit juice
1-1/2 oz. lime juice

Shake with ice and strain into chilled cocktail glasses. Makes 2 drinks--or one big one!

I think I got this from Wayne Curtis's book, though I've adjusted it a little. I'd like to try it with Havana Club for the sake of authenticity.

I think it could be my Strawberry Daiquiri:

2 oz Strawberry Infused Rum
Juice of 1 lime
Juice of 1/2 Lemon
8 drops of juice from an Orange (Not 7, not 9, but 8!)
1/2 oz Simple Syrup
2 oz of Water

This drink kills!!

Default Rob's Piranha Punch

Here's a little something that lulls you into the tropics, then bites you in the ass...

Rob's Piranha Punch

1 part pomegranate juice
3 parts passionfruit juice
2 parts Oronoco
(option) half teaspoon creme of coconut

I've made many of these with cachaзa and high proof rum as well. The combo of the pomegranate's strong berry flavor, the passionfruit's totally tropical tones and the white rum's big teeth interact to create the flesh-eating beast. The addition of a small amount of creme of coconut puts it over the top for me, but I can't drink more than one.

Do you use a blender to crush your ice? Need to see if mine will do a good job or crush too much. Your comment makes sense and should make a great Mai Tai. Thanks... Got home late some might wait until tomorrow to give it a go.

Think I will give this a try. I made a few drinks using fresh pomegranate juice over the holidays that I really liked but not with rum...
