I would have to think it has lots to do with licences and import laws.....if I could I would mail you a bottle for some of that Australian stuff thats for sure. Some of the Marines I am stationed with were there and loved it.

Is this a bad thing???
I just had a former co-worker move to Australia and he went to the Bundaberg Distillery this weekend. He has promised to send me some photos of the outside as he was not allowed to take any inside. When I get them I will post them on my site ASAP for everyone to see. He also picked up three bottles of a limited production run. He left me three various bottlings of Bundy before he left, I must sit down and compare them one night.

Well...The grass is always greener on the other side. I'm surprised Diageo has not floated the good Captain across the Pacific. There must be a good reason why.

I remember seeing a black label Captain Morgan right alongside the Coruba and various Bundys in the package stores I visited. It didn't appear to be the typical CM you find in the USA though. I became a Bundy & Pepsi Max fan while there...

Bundy are a marketing machine. End of story. You could substitute any rum for Capt Morgan in your question.
A challenge for the board. If someone thinks they know of a rum that is worse than Bundy please shout. I'll do a bottle swap with you to compare. A small bottle would make this work a bit easier me thinks

Its very cost prohibitive to ship large glass bottles full of heavy liquid. With all crap being equal, i would take the cheaper crap than the more expensive crap any day. Save yourself the over exposure to crap and buy some Inner Circle Rum!
Cheers

There's a fairly healthy stock of Captain Morgan Black and Spiced Gold at the Dan Murphy's (supermarket style chain of liquor stores) here in Mackay and it's common to see at least the CM Black on the shelf at any bar you'd care to walk into around here.
Obviously there isn't anywhere near the volume of CM as there is Bundy. Up here in North Queensland you'd be hard pressed to walk into a pub and find anyone that didn't drink Bundy, particularly now that Bundaberg Red seems to be winning over some of the bourbon drinkers.
Maybe it's an irregularity but Queensland is a rum-drinking state after all
Incidentally, I picked up a bottle of Matusalem Gran Reserva at Dan's the other day. Not a bad drop (in my humble and not very experienced opinion anyway).

Sadly it is now made in Fiji and bottled in New Zealand and the quality has suffered. Better than Bundy but a definite "mixer".
The bargain here in Australia is Bacardi 8. It is about 20% dearer than the cheapest stuff on the market.
