Does anyone know why the Industrias Licoreras de Guatemala does not claim the zaya on their website. Pound for pound this rum is just as perfect if not more so than the Zacapa 23 anos. If I had a product that great I would want the whole world to know. So does anyone know the truth behind the mystery of Zaya Gran Reserva.

I think it is because it a private labled rum made for Zaya by Industrias Licoreras. Kinda like in sporting goods (thinking fly fishing here companies will often contract with a major manufacture to make their own private label or store brand for them. An example I think of off hand is LL Bean contracts out with other manufactures to make some of their fishing tackle to their specs. Similiar to what Zaya has done with Industrias Licoreras...at least that would be my guess.

I believe Montecristo, Botran and Zaya are made from blended stocks from Industrias Licoreras de Guatemala. I heard a rumor that since Diageo is now importing and marketing Zacapa, these other brands may have to look for other sources. I hope not.

Keep us posted Robert. That would be a shame in the case of Zaya and Botran; both excellent as they are.

What strikes me as odd is Zaya does not even have a website. At least one that I can find.

Infinum is the company that markets Zaya. It's new division of Wilson Daniels of Alesio Viejo, CA.

Botran is part of Industrias Licoreras de Guatemala and Botran products will continue to be available. Zaya and Montecristo are private labels and like stated above, they are on their own for promotion from Zacapa.

I tend to agree that Zaya and Montecristo should definitely be considered when looking at the rums of Guatemala, but you won't find any information about them on the parent company websites. I expect Zaya to be promoted more in the coming year. Stay tuned.
