Default Angostura Single Barrel??

I friend dropped by to watch hockey the other night and brought a bottle of this wonderful rum. I was blown away by how smooth and sweet this rum was. I had never heard of it before and couldn't find anything out about on the web

He says he picked up in Trinidad a couple of years ago, and the bottle was marked bottle 18 of barrel 300 or something like that.

Anyone out there have any info on this?

Thanks,

Duff

Sounds very tasty, though never heard of it.

Speaking of which, I wish I had friends that popped over with rare bottles of rum to drink.

I unfortunately just have friends that come over and clean me out of half my bottles on a periodic basis.

Well... at least I "think" they're friends!

Default Clarification..

Sorry, I should clarify my "friend" comment. One of my buddies has a similar affinity and collection of rums as I. We both tend to conceal the "good" one's at the back of the stack of bottles.

I keep the Brugal Anejo on hand for mixed drinks (splash of Coke and topped up with soda water) and this is what guests get if they want rum.

Sorry for any confusion. I'm not a good enough friend to have all kinds of friends who drop by with great rum to watch hockey. Beer..yes. But rum....no.

I had this "friend" stay with me for 2 weeks a couple years back. (Note: this is back when my rum collection was at a balmy 6 bottles... 1 of them being captain morgan, but I digress) He drank me out of my Ketel One and Belvedere, my Captain Morgan handle, and my Bacardi Limited Reserve.

Me and him... not such good friends now. Drink all the Captain you want, but rare, hard to find bottles is where I cross the line! Id never invite him over again, now that ive got over 50 rums. Oy, I can only imagine!!

Well said, Philly!

I draw the line at sharing (too much) with others when I have to take into consideration that replacement of said bottles requires me to leave the country.

Don't get me wrong, there's nothing I'd rather be doing right now than lying on a beach in the Caribbean with several bottles neatly packed in my suitcase. Especially since we're at the end of March and it was just snowing big fat fluffy snowflakes for three hours this morning.

Need some rum to warm up.

This thread has been hi-jacked, no doubts about it. I have one friend who enjoys Barbancournt 15 and now enjoys several of the rums I've introduced him to. He's a good guy and shares everything he has at any time. I have other friends who would drink my best dry to catch a buzz. They would if I were to let them. I have the designated non-rum drinking rums available.

I do not let non-rum drinkers guzzle my better rums. No sense in wasting the rum and my friends will be happy with what I give them. Clear and healthy boundaries solve all sorts of problems.

Now, to make a Cuba Libre with Pyrat Cask 1623 for my friends' girlfriend whom I have never met . . .

If I entertained a guest and guest's said girlfriend requested... nay... demanded a cuba libre with my Pyrat Cask, would I be wrong if I politely killed her?

I think Id get away with a "temporarily insanity" plea. Ive been watching too much Eli Stone...
