Default Recipe changes in the rum industry?

After reading about the changes with Campari in eGullet and Explore the Pour (check my thread in other discussions)
i now wonder if or how common is this in the rum-industry?

Are companies attempting to alter recipes without informing the public?

Labels and recipes are evolving all the time and distillers/blenders aren't going to tell you that the product that you loved for so long has changed, why would they? If you knew it has changed you might be reluctant to buy another bottle.

Sometimes, products get better than the competition and sometimes they suffer. The best bartenders in the industry try to taste everything on their bar at least every six months. But even that isn't going to be foolproof in getting the best of several products.

And then tasting a product straight isn't always going to be the best approach either. Last week in NY I heard of a group of bartenders that made daiquiris with three different white rums and then made their selection. The winning rum in the daiquiri contest didn't necessarily win the neat test. But the competition between the bars for the title of best daiquiri remains to be settled. You have to try them all.

When I dream up a better job, I'm going to take it. In the meantime, the research continues.
