Default Shelf life

I know once a bottle is opened it should be consumed in a month or two becuse of oxidation. What about a unopened bottle? How long can it be kept? Years? Also does it age any longer if you were to keep a bottle in the cellar or is the aging process done once it is bottled?

A great deal depends on the amount of air in the bottle. I believe that once a bottle of over half empty it should be finished fairly quickly.

A pleasant side effect of following that recommendation is the license to use some fine rums in mixed drinks to their great benefit.

is it just me or is it that after you've opened a bottle of spice(d) rum, it seems to lose its spiciness?

Not sure..but spices in general are not supposed to be un-used for too long, but when the spices are in the rum they must keep their flavor longer..
