Default Appleton 12 R.I.P.?

So I bought a bottle of Appleton Extra yesterday, I took it home, I poured myself a shot, I looked at the bottle again, and the age date 12 had been removed from the packaging. What happened? On the back label they claim that it's made of rums up to 18 years old, but the guarantee of 12 is gone. It still tasted great; but already I'm thinking, is this not as oaky as it was? Does it not linger as long? I know blenders blend to taste and not to age but Appleton 12 was such a standard, a rock. Twelve wasn't just an age date, it was a brand. Strange. Again, what happened?

The winds of change are blowing in the Caribbean. A lot of the Appleton rums are being blended, reblended and changed a little. The good news is that the crew in the Nassau valley are working hard to maintain the quality of their products and they're doing a pretty good job of it. And they are introducing a few newly blended rums including the Master Blender's Legacy.

Enjoy what you have while you can get it, and if you really like what you're drinking and can afford to buy a couple of bottles to put in the back of your locker you'll be glad you did. Rum doesn't go bad in the bottle just store it in a cool, dark, dry place.

my local stockists (all two of them) haven't got any left. there's a big hole on the shelf where the 12 should be. the 12 is my favourite too. shame.

chock that temporary shortage up to the change in importing and distributing for now. It will soon settle out.

My current bottle has the 12. And yes, the 12 is a little scarce right now.

So which one is the new or is it just 2 labels but the same rum in the bottle?

Appleton Extra is one of my favorites - along with El Dorado. I have little experience or knowledge with distilling. Is it common for blends/recipes to change? Is it due to rum's re-emergence in recent years making a run on supply?
