Ron Boltran 1893
I'm sure this is a fine rum to others, it just didn't sit well with me.

Sea Wynde. Tastes like scotch. I loathe scotch.

Renegade Rum Black Rock (Barbados). Horrid stuff. I couldn't even give it away.

Pyrat Pistol. All orange, all the time. If I wanted Gran Marnier I would have bought it.

Bundaberg Reserve. I have no idea what this is, but it's not what I think of when I think of rum.

Captain Morgan's Tattoo is the worst crap I have ever tasted. I tastes like cough syrup. I bought a small sample bottle for two bucks and thought it was so bad I asked for my money back. Lol.

I think this liquid proves that most people's taste buds are dead and that they will buy and drink anything.

for me, the new sailor jerry recipe issued here in the UK is the only rum i've ever poured down the sink.

Default Non-Palate Pleasers

Like women all rum is quite subjective, to look, feel and taste. I usually prefer a fuller bodied specimen in both respects. I was rather disappointed with the Zaya, rather cloyying in its sweetness. Kracken, I really do not know what all the fuss is about but I would not touch it again. Old Monk from India, if this is what they call rum they can keep it. And pretty much anything with a bat as its logo (Bacardi) is non-starter with me.

My two pet peeves have already been listed:

Ron Matusalem 15 year Gran Reserva: My first premium rum purchase after Ron Zacapa 23. I had seen the two compared as excellent sippers, but the Matusalem was, as the previous poster stated, more like whiskey.

Similarly, El Dorado 15. El Dorado 12 might be my favorite rum, but the 15 was just a bit too whiskey-like for me as well. I prefer it over the Matusalem, though, by far.

Felt the same about Flor de Cana 7, but it has actually grown on me quite a bit and I enjoy the oaky finish when in the right mood.

For me it's Pyrat XO and Old Monk. Both are bad.

Mine would have to be the bottle of the new Zaya Trinidad version and Pampero Anejo (not the anniversario, I love that one). I was quite anxious to try the new Zaya and finanly decided to plunk down the $40 for a bottle. I got home poped the cork and thought it was a $40 bottle of vanilla extract. The Pampero Anjo I bought while visiting relatives in Atlanta, I figured as good as the Anniversario is the Anejo had to be decent for $20, man was I wrong.
I found it far too sweet for me. I love the anniversario as well as diplomatico and a myriad of other rums. Also I don't think Zacapa is worth the hype but it is better than Zaya

Would you consider the Anejo a good mixer? I could get hold of a 1-liter-bottle for 14 euros. Normally, I'd have to spend 13 euros for 0.7 liters of Havana Club 3 anos...

Btw, my last "cheap" bottle was the El Dorado Dark, which had a taste reminiscent of glue... which was even noticeable in rum & coke, so I basically had to make it a cuba libre every time to drown out the strange aftertaste.
