Ypioca is one of the oldest continuously run distillers in Brazil.
They have a wide range of products. The "Gold" is an entry level cachaca, that is aged one year. That's not to be confused with the "Ouro", which means gold in Portuguese, which is aged 2 years. The bottle is wrapped in palm.
This may taste a little different than basic cachacas like Pitu, because it is aged in balsam.
It's a basic drink mixer

Iґve tried the Ypioca 160 this weekend at a party of some Portugese friends of mine and I can truly recommend that cachaca. Straight (neat) or as a Caipirinha it's delicious.
Lots of flavor coming through from chocolat to roasted almonds to some tobacco and nutty flavors!!!!
Sweet at the sip and becoming slightly drier in the downing, the aftertaste is smooth and caramelized fruit-like.
Truly impressive and definetely worthwhile.

Ypioca family
Got to agree with Brigand. The 160 is indeed a great tasting sipping cachaca. I remember first tasting it a couple of years ago in Ybor City. (Mayor Burr can testify to that). It was head and shoulders above the rest of the cachaca's within the competition. I have recently been given the 150 by the export manager from Brazil who was recently in London. It's been aged for 6 years, ( 3 in Balsam wood and then 3 in oak) I haven't opened it yet but I expect it to be quality. The 170 will be bottled in 7 years time to commemorate their 170 birthday.

I still have 2 1/2 bottles of the 160. I need to explore this spirit more. I did not realize its potential until reading your posts. I am still finding my way in the world of cachaca.

I think the Ypioca gold is a very flavourful cachaca, but I have only had it as a Caipirinha - which was excellent.

Agreed it does make a nice Caipirinha. I was at Fogo de Chao in Baltimore this weekend and we asked what they used, waitor said it was the Ypioca Gold.
The day before we made some with Ypioca Crystal and I must say those were equally good IMHO. Both were very nice cachaca for that drink.
