Hi J
If you do not appreciate alcohol but just love to collect special bottlings that appeal to you, then I dig your style. Collecting full sealed alcohol bottles for the sheer joy of owning something special, in my opinion, very cool.
I know lots of people who do something very similar. My Star Wars Geek friend who collects his Star Wars toys but never takes them out of the plastic wrap, yeah I'm talking about you Todd. Then there is my movie Poster collecting friend who wants the original poster of every Oscar Winning Film even though he dislikes most of the movies that win Oscars. Then there is that web site out there dedicated to nothing but rum labels, no bottles, no booze, just the labels. Cool!
You seem to be collecting for the sheer joy of possessing something special.
The fact that the reviews and opinions of others regarding the contents is important to you is not surprising. You want your collection to be worthwhile and important to others, because it is important to you.
Not everybody gets it, but I do, and like I said earlier, I think it is extremely cool!

Hey, chrism76. Sorry if my sense of humour got the better of you.
Without wishing to seem like I'm treating you like a 10 year old, you might want to consider the possibility that you may occasionally be treated like a 10 year old by people who are on your forum with the intention of winding you up; if this happens, you might want to consider replying with equal tongue-in-cheek.
Keep your eyes open, mate! )))

Rum Collector who doesn't drink.
Although I do open and drink the rums I buy, I can understand Your passion. Besides rum I like to collect Hard Rock Cafe City T-Shirts I never wear.

Those bottles do look good on the shelf, and so long as they remain sealed (and stored correctly), their value will remain (or increase).
I have bottles of armagnac that I spent a fortune on years ago, and although I adore drinking the stuff, there are many that I cannot bring myself to open.
Enjoy your collection!

I sure would like to be a mouse in your house!...... all those tempting bottles to break into!
But seeing as your not opening them, I would suggest you at least lay them on their sides regularly to keep the corks moist and maintain their seal. If the seals get compromised, the contents will go south and you'll have lost most of your investment.
Hey, look over there,..... a Chicken! ...Yum.

CaptCanuck,
As collector, I share your passion. Items of great value don’t have to be consumed to be collected and appreciated. While I do not partake of the “essence” of my collection, I hope to eventually have one as large as Bob Davies', Steve Remsberg's, or Arctic Wolf's. The forum has been a great source of information, conversation, search tips, and new friends for me over the years. I do, however, have a lot to learn and a lot more rum to collect.
