I have shot my Rum...Booze budget for a while with these latest purchases, but this is another great one, Angostura 1824. I went off the rumdog007 "hoarding" recommendation and the tasting notes on this forum, it looked like a bottle I would enjoy and I most certainly do. Smooth nose that does not give away the deep flavor that comes through with a gentle spice that finishes very nice. This has been a nice start to the journey.

Started off with a Mt Gay Extra Old, and am finishing the night with Zaya. It's been a long day but this is a nice end to it.

Planteurs punch but the recipe on the St. James Royal Ambre bottle. The recipe forest put out is much better but I had to give this one a try. Messed it up with too much grenadine but 1/4 the way down the rum took over and it was pleasant again.

2009 has been rough and tonight 80 Proof just didn't seem to be what I needed so I started the night with a great Bourbon, GT Stagg at 140.6 є. It does do a nice job of taking the edge off.
Do people drink the 150є rums neat or are they strictly for Punch power? I have never tried one? My favorite Bourbons tend to be the higher proof higher Rye bottles.
I have moved on to the more subtle Appleton Estate VX, this is a nice caress to send me off to sleep.

In the islands they can drink the over proof stuff by mid morning...straight. I've never tried it and instead prefer the high stuff for cooking and for punches. If you can handle it go for it, just a preference on my end.
