I don't see the logic, unless they're really shooting for a very small amount of production.
Robert is right. That and @ minimum 30 years of age, the barrels are not going to yield a high volume of cases. I'd guess that 40%+ of the cost (at the wholesale level) is aimed at off-setting loss. They have to make up for what the Angels have claimed. Not to mention 1400 bottles of a 1-off is not a lot. Unless an already formatted bottle is used you're looking at new glass (1,400 pieces), definitely a new label and if like here... registering the product in every market it is to be sold with-in. If it were a continuous product the price could be eased as production could make up the initial costs over time/volume.

As the Minister said as well, Ferraris & Lamborghinis are made for a small select crowd. There are certain spirits, unless I can get in on a deal that I feel really good about, I won't own. While it's nice to possess everything imaginable, enjoyment is my sole purpose these days.

Also fwiw, I'm not sure if others have experienced similar... but several occasions past, I've poured something super exclusive that I know I really enjoy in the right setting, but have not been able to enjoy to the full potential because at the time I can't produce or control the environment.

Nothing is more disturbing for me than to pour a nice sized shot of something rare and then have the experience come off "ho-hum" due to atmospheric interferences. While those generally weren't horror flicks, knowing the price or irreplaceable status and having higher expectations of the experience seriously dampened my level of "enjoyment".

These days, a $250 bottle of rum for myself would require a "Do NOT Disturb" sign. Still I can't begrudge them for making an extra-premium product that comes at an extra-premium price. There's also the obvious that such a product is designed to be a conversation piece, with the intention of creating its own niche.

In other words, I won't sulk if I don't get a bottle. My motto is "Love the one you're with!" At the end of the day, a good glass of rum is a good glass of rum - no matter how old / matured it was, no matter how little or much it cost. Don't worry; Be happy.

Question And then...

Any updates? As at early July it appeared as though it's still not released yet. I'm itching to try to get my hands on some soon as know it's released.
