If you like whisk(e)y, you'll like MGXO, probably the smoothest of the three you mention. Appleton 12 packs a punch, and if you like full flavor, it's a good choice. I don't care for the 1824.

Picked up my first bottle of ED 12. Had my first sip during the Super Bowl. It was so good it distracted me from the game for a few minutes.

I find Appleton 12 to be slightly reminiscent of whisk(e)y as well. Not sure how it compares to MGXO though. I have a bottle, but haven't cracked it open...yet.

Got my first bottle of El Dorado 12 last Thursday. The first sip was good, but the aftertaste.... mindblowing! Unbelievably long!
It's still some months until the birthday of a friend of mine, but I'm almost sure I'll get him some of that bottled gold!

Any thoughts on Mt. Gay Extra Old? Will I enjoy it as much as the ED?
My other personal favorites up to now: Diplomatico 12, Plantation XO, Angostura 12

I agree regarding the Appleton 12. Not really my thing, but a lot of people love it.

Finally picked up the St. Nicholas Abbey 10 year old after a rum tasting, and I think it's worth the money. Can't wait to crack it.

Just got Diplomático Reserva Exclusiva.
With Pampero Aniversario being my favorite cheaper ($19 in NH) sipper, I think that I will enjoy it based on what I have read here. The Diplomático also has one of the finer presentations that I have seen; the tin is a nice touch and the bottle is beautiful.

I've only had a couple pours from my bottle of Appleton 12, but so far I prefer the Reserve (8 years old).
