Default Greetings from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada

I've been lurking for a couple of years and finally raised the courage to actually post an introduction.

As mentioned above, I live in Edmonton, Alberta which was the second coldest place (recorded on that date) on Earth on December 13, 2009 at about -46.1 degrees Celsius (-51 degrees Fahrenheit for our American friends). Good thing I have a well stocked rum cabinet to keep me warm.

I am far from an "expert" on rum, but entered the wide world of rum when introduced to Zacapa Centenario and Barbancourt (Reserve du Domaine) while on a Caribbean cruise which opened my eyes to the world of rum (which to that point was only familiar with the ubiquitous Bacardi and "the Captain"). Prior to that I was a dedicated single malt scotch drinker and now switch between rum and scotch depending on my mood at the time and/or the company with whom I was sharing a tot / dram.

Favourite rums in the cabinet include Angostura 1824, Appleton Estate Extra, Barbancourt Estate Reserve, Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva, El Dorado 15 yr, English Harbour 5 yr, Havana Club 7 yr and 15 yr, Legendario Elixir de Cuba, Matusalem Gran Reserva, Mount Gay Extra Old, Zacapa Centenario amongst a couple others. Many more in the "cellar" which I am looking forward to opening. I would have more opened if my wife "allocated" more than one shelf in the cabinet for opened bottles.

I'm looking forward to continuing to read the great contributions from the many members on this forum and continuing to expand my knowledge in this area. Hopefully, I will be able to contribute something to this community.

Hi Goose

Nice to meet a fellow Edmontonian here at the Mor.

That was a cold day wasn't it, in fact I think we are well on our way to one of the coldest Decembers in my memory. But like you I have just enough rum to make it through to January... Which according to Hallsy (and his "guy") is supposed to be warmer....although Hallsy was wrong about December...(maybe his "guy" froze).

I guess I better get more rum just in case.

Welcome to the Forums Goose!

(And we will just let everyone else be confused by the Hallsy reference, us Edmontonians need to keep some things to ourselves.)

Welcome to the forums goose. As a confessed lurker, I'm glad you took the time to register and introduce yourself. If you'd like to put another pin in the members map you can do it in the Edit Profile section in the User CP (control panel).

Just scroll down and follow the link to get your lat/lon. I suggest just using something that isn't right over your house, but maybe your favorite store or bar. This morning there were 230 members from around the world with locations posted on the Members Map.

Thank you all for the warm welcomes.

I will be sure to pin my location as soon as I can determine what latitude and longitude Edmonton is located at using the link you referenced.

On another note, just acquired my first bottle of Gosling's Black Seal and made my first Dark 'N Stormy. Excellent drink. Had a more difficult time finding an authentic Ginger Beer in Edmonton until I chanced upon a "West Indian" grocery store.
