17 years ago in 2000, the Roig sugar factory in Yabucoa and the Coloso factory in Aguada, not far from where the first sugar cane had been brought to the island 385 years before, closed.

Default Appleton Estate 30 Year Old

Hi Joy,

Beside the obvious "30 years", how long did it take to develop the blend for the new 30 year old offering and what was the motivation for its creation?

Great question Dood!

Joy, I read that you joined Wray&Nephew in 1981 and became the master blender in 1997. That assumes the rums that were to become the blend of the limited edition rum had already been put to barrels before you joined Wray&Nephew. How were you first introduced to these rums and how much were you involved with these rums before you became the master blender? Was it always planned that these rums would be saved for this limited edition?

Furthermore I would like to know why only 1440 bottles are released. Do you have any of these rums left for future limited edition blends or has the angels share been such a big factor over the 30 years it is not possible to bottle more or perhaps there was little of these rums to begin with?

- Best regards

Appleton Estate 30 Year Old Jamaica Rum is a limited edition which means that there will only be one production run of this particular rum.

We are only producing 1440 bottles because that is the amount of liquid that we have ... you lose a lot to the angels when the rum sits in a barrel for 30 years.

Joy, I would love to get a hold of a bottle or two of the 30 year to sell at the bar, if the proper distribution routes could be reached.

Me having one bottle means 13 people getting to enjoy the rum.

Hopefully I am not getting my hopes up, but I went to the liquor store on base tonight, and the manager mentioned to me that she might be able to get one of the 30 year bottles.....and if that is true, some of you may need to make a trip to NC when I retire from the Marine Corps in March 2010.

CROSSING MY FINGERS ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !

I second that, it's starting to bug the crap out me that I haven't heard any more info since the original press release of over a year ago... I only just broke down and decided a couple of weeks back to ask my local liquor and wine merchant who meant to be asking the importers here about it and he's pretty good, but nothing back as yet, that's if he's remembered to chase it...
