Pomegranate molasses
I saw a bottle of Pomegranate molasses today in a asian shop and i wonder if anyone tried this in drink mixing?
I quote expert Paula Wolfert, a fine cookbook author: "Pomegranate molasses is an essential ingredient...has a wonderful flavor and a heady aroma, and its thickness and dark color make food look very appealing. It keeps almost indefinitely in the refrigerator. The uses for this thick, tangy, piquant syrup are many. It blends well with walnuts, adds a tart and pungent flavor to beans, sharpens the taste of poultry, gives a clean, tart taste to fish, gives an astringent edge to salads and vegetables, and is a great tenderizer for lamb and pork. It can also be diluted and used for sharp drinks and tart sorbets."

intriguing... pomegranate molasses. I'll be on the lookout for this product. It must have the most flavor per ml of any concoction on earth. Who makes it?

Pomegranate molasses is a traditional ingredient in Middle Eastern cooking and can be found at Middle Eastern markets, or as i did in an Asian store, maybe?
I guess there are a few brands.
This is a way to make pomegranate molasses if you do not have access to a middle eastern grocery store, but can get real pomegranate juice.
3 cups pomegranate juice (if there is added sugar in your juice, reduce the sugar called for in this recipe)
1/2 cup lemon juice
1/2 cup sugar
Combine all ingredients.
Simmer and reduce until there is only 1 cup of liquid remaining.
Chill.

We've got a bottle of Pomegranate molasses we were using in a new Pomegranate Cosmopolitan. It's a pallette busting taste sensation - really full in flavour. I can see why chefs might enjoy playing with it - i quite enjoy just dipping straws into the bottle

You could make a pomegranate cosmo by just replacing the cranberry in the recipe with pomegranate juice. The molasses we used while we were creating a range of bottled cocktails that are going on shelf in the UK in May. They're called 'West Eleven Cocktails' and we're launching;
Passion Fruit Mai Tai - using our own Jamaican/Guyanese rum blend - almond extract, lime, orange curacao, sugar
Classic Mojito - using a Cuban blend - rum, mint infused sugar, lime, soda
Blueberry Bramble - blueberry puree, gin, lemon, sugar
Elderflower Collins - elderflower extract, vodka, lemon, sugar
Mango Daiquiri - mango juice, Cuban blend rum, lime, sugar
Pomegranate Cosmopolitan - pomegranate juice, touch of molasses, vodka, orange curacao, lime, sugar
When they launch I'll tell you guys a bit more about them - but I can tell you, they taste real goooooood

After i`ve had it for almost a week now i can recommend anyone to buy this if you want to have something really tasty, tangy and flavorful in your drinks and also in your cooking.
I tried dipping straws in the bottle (quite fun) and a little really goes a long way with this product. On some bottles i`ve also seen it labeled grenadine molasses.
