From what I can find online, the Cartavio section of Peru has produced sugar cane and spirits since the late 1800's, and you'll find several rums available with a
Cartavio designation.
It appears as if Velocity International and Distillerias Unidas have purchased the naming rights to
Ron Cartavio. That may be the source of confusion as well
