Rum & Cigars

Few things go together better than a glass of good rum and the right cigar, except maybe more rum.

Default Which cigar with these rums

I'm off to my tobacconist later to pick up a few cigars. I'm after something a bit mild and aromatic to go with the following rums:

HC Cuban Barrel Proof
Plantation XO Barbados Rum
Cruzan Single Barrel

Here's a link to the shop...any suggestions? I've got around £40 to spend so not loads but enough to sample 2 or 3 different brands!

Cheers, Dave.

Let me know how they match up when you get some suggestions.

Although I wouldn't consider it mild, I love a Monte Cristo #2 with Havana Club.

Default Padron 64 natural and Alec Bradley Prensado

Just smoked these this week while doing a blind pairing of these 3 rums:
Zafra 21
El Dorado 15
Zacapa 23

The spicier Padron 64 made it very easy to draw lines in the dirt as which worked the best for me. The AB Prensado blurred the lines considerably, and made it very difficult to determine which rum went best with it. BTW, both cigars were a 50 ring gauge and aged more than a year. I believe those factors make quite a difference.

Monte Cristo Joyitas are perfect with a Ti Punch, while Gloria Cubana Médaille d'Or n°1 goes well with aged rums. Alas I don't smoke anymore, but still can remember the very taste of these marvels!

VivaCubaLibre, what did you think of the Zafra and El Dorado 15? I prefer the El Dorado over the Zafra, but I'm not a huge fan of the El Dorado.

Sorry for the incredibly slow response...its been a hectic year. All 5 of us who did the blind pairing agreed that the El Dorado 15 paired the best with whatever we were smoking. The Zafra was the least favorite, and too light for my taste. The Zacapa wasn't a bad second fiddle. I've never heard of any cigar smoker not being a fan of that Eldorado 15. In fact, whenever I do a blind pairing and Eldo 15 is one of the contenders, it always comes out on top. I've gone to great lengths to get a bottle many times, since its not sold in AZ. Hope that helps.

'The Fighting Cocks' brand is really good. Anyone try Montecristo Media Noche? Goes great with any dark rum.

Zacapa 23 and a Punch Punch pair perfectly together.
