Someone else also mentionned The Brinley line to me before and it does seems awesome, especially if you say they'll knock the other two's socks off and still at 15% more abv!

Unfortunately our provincial stores here and in Quebec doesn't carry that line.

I use the Malibu coconut as modifiers and find that it works great. But if I had a Brinley Gold Coconut at %36, I might just sip that alone.

i agree with Seldom Seen except that the statement is unfair since ANYTHING would blow those 2 sun tan lotion and fingernail polish and sugar concoction away...

Coruba Coconut is good. Cruzan Coconut is good. Brinley's is good. Tortuga Coconut is probably the better of those kinds of things (with Brinley at a close second). But "those 2" blech....

Thanks for chiming in Forrest. I could only recommend the Brinley's having not had Tortuga's offering. So now I have some homework to do.

Oh my!

I picked up a bottle of "Ron Diaz Gran Reserva" at my (well trained) liquor store. It is probably the lowest priced rum I have bought in years and was only purchased on the high recommendation of the manager. It is wonderful. I had thought it could be used for cocktails, but it has proved worthy of sipping.

It is proving to be a real treat to have the manager of my local store on the same page as me in terms of Rum, (and also wines).

3ounces of Flor de Cana 12yrs after 2 ounces of Hiram Walker's Special Old whisky .. mixed with cola of course. Needless to say that I've got a pretty damn good buzz going and that I'm tired and just trying to finishing up a movie of Bruce Willis, The Surrogates.

I bought the Flor de Cana 12yrs old in Montreal a few months ago, as the LCBO doesn't carry the 7 (which I've never had) and 12 and beyond.

For those who know me, sipping 40% straight up .. I haven't found much that is to my taste.. Althought I can tell you that for me Flor de Cana 12, has that soapy thrills gum like the Appleton Reserve, totally disgusting to me unless it is swallowed mixed with some Cola.

I'm wondering if I should try for the Flor de Cana 7yrs as I read somewhere that it's a different ball game... I'm not to sure about that.

On a bit of a Gin kick lately drinking Pegu Cocktails made with No. 1 Original Blue gin. Really (and I mean really good)!

Felt guilty because this is a rum forum so I made a Celebration Cocktail with Appleton Reserve and the aforementioned gin. Yumm!
