The Connoisseur's Cabinet!! Feel's nice in here...
My name is forrest, i am sure you have seen me around 'here'. i work at Hi-Time Wine Cellars in Costa Mesa Calif-- i sling booze for a living and write a monthly "Booze-Letter" (i wish it was called that...); Also i do drinks consulting, mixology, bar-tending, write POS-- basically i get around.
When it comes to rum-- i have been an avid lover for over 15 years. Let us just say that i have tried quite a few and leave it there.. (for now . . .).
Welcome to my little corner-- thanks for popping in, i'll try to keep it fresh...

Sagatiba Pura
Spent the evening with some cachaca-- good stuff!
i was drinking Sagatiba Pura and putting it through its paces for a post i have coming.
Anyone tried this brand?

Hi Forrest!
Yes, i have tried Sagatiba pura. To me its a high quality cachaca well suited for mixing but...even if its very smooth, nice tasting etc but...i must say i do prefer those artisanal cachacas that arenґt tooooo much distilled..i think they have more personality.
Sagatiba uses a column still for Pura, and a pot still for Velha. I would like to try Sagatiba velha (or why not their Preciosa?)
There`s two cachacas i`ve tried that are very flavourful and i just hope they will be exported to the US. One is Abelha which is an organic cachaca sold in the UK, and i`ve tried the un-aged Abelha, i hope to try their aged soon.
The other is Rainhas Das Gerais which is an aged artisanal cachaca but is as far as i know only sold in Brazil. I`ll soon write a review of it.
RDG has a lovely buttery flavour that i have only felt in two other spirits - El Dorado 3 year cask aged white and Elements Eight platinum.

i agree with you.
The Pura is clean crisp and easily mixable-- and i do prefer a more flavorful style of cachaca

That is correct. The Velha is Pot Distilled artisan cachaca aged in bourbon barrels for 2 years and it is yummy. The Preciosa is stunning-- words pale, a truly lovely, deeply contemplative and highly evolved spirit-- one of the things that surprised the heck out of me was that you could still identify the base spirit in it even after the extensive aging... Both of them are great so there that is (and like we both said the Pura is very good and perfect fo mixing-- a great substitution for vodka in a drink!)

Yes do come by we have a lot of great rum and can order even more.
Seeing as you are from around here, don't miss out Rum tasting either... July or August..

Dammit..... everything cool happens in Cali! I never should have moved back to South Dakota! Its a barren wasteland of human existence....but there is Rum, so not all is lost!
