Default Happy Canada Day!

From the country best known for beer, rye, snow tires, back bacon and production of hockey players, I raise my glass (rum and ice) to all those hosers and part-time hosers (with the Canuck flag sewed on your back pack) on this glorius July 1! Happy Canada Day from north of the 49th!

We usually hunker down for the winter dreamin' of being on a beach in the Caribbean and just catching a glimpse of Ed's sailboat' sipping some of the local finest. But this fine summer day in BC finds me on the beach with new surprise from the local liquor store: Santa Teresa 1796. Very nice stuff, but oddly reminiscent of Brugal's Siglo de Oro for some reason.

Cheers to all!!

My hat is off to you, my north-of-the-border rum swilling friend! Yes, yours is the land of great maple syrup and contraband Cuban rum (among many other wonderful things). I am humming "O' Canada" as I sip my Havana Club 7 Anos. Have good holiday!

Talking Happy Canada Day

Dog, ya know, it doesn't even occur to us that Cuban products are contraban in the US. Wtf is the problem with such a friendly little country?

I have a nice cubano stogie all set for tomorrow, but I guess you guys at least have Guantanamo Bay (where I assume your photo was taken).

Happy Canada Day Duff. Were you on Wreck Beach? Enjoy the ST 1796.

The appropriate beverage would be newfoundland screetch!

Happy Canada Day to my countrymen (and women)!

Yes, yes, it's weird to me, so far removed from the Cold War and, yet, "Just Say No to Cuba" policy. But, I'll always have the BC Liquors in Burnaby, though. That's my spot to pick up a few bottles of the HC Blanco Anejo every couple of months. I've come to think of it as "Little Havana"!

To honor the occation, I opened one of my 100proof Cabot Tower Demerara from Importe de Guyane et mis en Bouteilles par Newfoundland Liquor Corp. Nice bottle, and a heavenly smell, but not the best Rum: has a strong oaky taste to it, There is however something special to drink after kissing the cod. Hats off to Canada.

That's one that I was very excited to find on my last trip north of the border, but like you, I was a little disappointed. Maybe my expectations were just a little too high. But it did help fend off the cold on the lake on Canada Day.
