Porfidio Single Barrel Anejo Rum
Anyone seen this Mexican Single Barrel with a palm tree inside?
My first impression of Porfidio Single Barrel Anejo Rum: this rum is for tourists, with a palm tree inside the bottle, but I don't recall any other single barrel rums from Mexico. It was about $12 for a 750 ml bottle in the duty free in the Turks and Caicos Islands, but I've seen it online for more than $50.
I wondering if I should crack open the bottle or leave it intact as a curiosity.
If you've ever tasted it, let me know.

Have not tasted it, but did see it online. I was very curious, but I would have to know more before paying the $50.

We have the Porfidio here, and I've tasted the barrel proof. It's pretty disappointing considering the price point here in the UK. It reminds me of a cuban style aged rum - quite sweet with a very caramelly almost toffee finish, but not particuarly recommended.
Outstanding bottle though, it looks really handcrafted

We get the the D'Aristi rums from Mexico- The silver and gold are forgettable mixers, but the Especial Reserve is a nice rum, if a little one-dimensional. They also make some interesting and (useful for cocktails) honey liqueurs.

Oddly enough Washington State had some bottles of this rum for sale prior to Christmas. I only remember because of the packaging, namely the palm tree you mention. My thought was the same as yours when I saw it; interesting bottle but what's inside?

Nice collection in your avatar, Lew!
Lew, is there a bigger picture of your rather sizable collection of rum?
