Default New Intro

Hi all,

I am new to the rum world. I live in Maine but have spent some time in the Caribbean (leisure and work) and I want to learn about the history and evolution of rum and its variance across the West Indies and beyond. Despite travelling with my family to various islands growing up, I spent some time studying and working on a few islands and I was always interested in the history, people, culture and landscape of the Caribbean and I guess more relevent, the rum and local beers.

I was a student of archaeology and assisted in some project work for the National Park Service on St. John as well as some work in the BVI. I was also commissioned as a photographer to shoot the Heineken Regatta in St. Maarten.

Anyway, I am very interested to learn more and try some new rum. What a great forum. I was searching for a place to purchase Ron Barlitto outside of Puerto Rico and found the Ministry.

I am going to head out and search for the Mount Gay Sugar Cane!

Thus far my favorite rums include:

Ron Barilitto Three Star
Mount Gay Eclipse and Extra Old
Cruzan
Goslings
Saba Rock

I am excited to try some others so I am sure the list will change.

and I just started reading "...and a bottle of Rum"

Thanks and I look forward to interacting and learning more.

Welcome to the forums rumgarden. It is a shame that more of the Caribbean islands don't have the resources to preserve and protect their history. The history of the islands is very interesting and there isn't enough accurate information written about it.

I just got an invitation to go to the Heineken Regatta and was shocked that this will be the 32nd regatta.

When I dream up a better job, I'm going to take it. In the meantime, the research continues.

Great to have someone else from Northern New England. Welcome.

Ron Barlitto is a rum worth looking for.

I have always been a bit shocked by the lack of rum selection in Maine. Am I just not going to the right places?
