Default El Dorado 21 Discontinued?

I did a search and while there were many El Dorado threads I didnt see this mentioned. Since this is making me scratch my head I figured the rumor forum was best suited.

Twice now I have went into a local store...small shop but with an outstanding diverse rum selection, and have been told El Dorado 21 is no longer produced. They have the full range so I can't see the advantage of making up a rumor.

It looks like it is still in stock across many places and the El Dorado website lists it as current.

Has anyone else heard this as well? I haven't tried it yet, and if this is possible I may pick up a bottle to put in storage for a while until I'm ready for it.

Thanks in advance.

I was in Guyana in April and visited DDL. There was no indication whatsoever that they were going to discontinue El Dorado 21.

Same thing in here in Quebec. Even with our poor selection ED 21 is available. Quantities are limited but it is available.

According to DDL, there are no plans to discontinue El Dorado 21. I'll be serving it as one of the rums tomorrow night at Eva's Caribbean Kitchen.

Sadly, regardless of whether the distributor is still making it, it will no longer be stocked in Ontarios (monopolistic) LCBO stores. And since we can't mail order spirits, I intend to buy as much as my bank account can weather while there are still a few in stock.

I would advise anyone else living in Ontario to do the same.

Unfortunately, one of the larger local distributors in the Houston, Texas area has also stopped stocking El Dorado 21 over the past several months but continues to stock other varieties of El Dorado rum. Store management stated that El Dorado 21 was discontinued. I'm glad to learn this is not actually the case based upon other members' comments. It would be interesting to learn what has actually transpired since the disappearance of El Dorado 21 from store shelves seems to be a wide-spread phenomenon.

Our Total Wine used to carry it...it is still listed in their catalog, however, I haven't seen it there in months. I got the last bottle on their shelf anyway.

I have also encountered the "EL Dorado 21 is being discontinued" statement at a few liquor stores. I certainly believe Ed that this is not the case, but obviously something is up.

Maybe it's about distribution and not production?

Anyway, I stocked up in case it disappears from the shelves.

I have not tried the 21. How would you rate it? Is it worth picking up now, just in case?
