Default Hello all from a Rum poor state

Hello from Alabama. As the Great State of Alabama has a rigid three tier system that puts the State at the distributor level for liquor, I to all hello from a State with poor choices. Fortunately, I live 1/2 an hour from the State line with Tennessee and frequently go to the Atlanta area where the pickings are greater.

I though am a novice at the whole thing, but do know what I like and rum is it.

At least you can drive to the next state and find some good rums. Though Georgia laws aren't as bad for the consumer as those in Alabama, Georgia has a very restrictive system for the importer. In Georgia the importer is almost married to the distributor and must be released by the distributor if he wants to change distributors, a situation which has allowed distributors to literally block the sale of products while the distributor claims he still has inventory in his warehouse. While the distributor may have inventory, if he chooses not to sell it the importer is essentially locked out of the stores.

In the beverage alcohol business, it seems there are always little problems to be overcome. The good news is that there are several retailers in the Atlanta area who really do want to learn about what is on their shelves and stock a surprising number of good rums.

When I dream up a better job, I'm going to take it. In the meantime, the research continues.
