Default Introduction

Hello everyone,
My name is Mike S. I live in the S.E. of the United States, and recently retired from the world of broadcast communications. I'm in the process of becoming more familiar with the finer things in life, and recently happened upon this forum. Prior to my retirement, I didn't have the time to sit back and enjoy a nice snifter of Rum. I was always on the go, and life was hectic. Now, I plan on taking the time to truly enjoy the finer things in life, and thought I'd join a group of individuals who might assist me in doing just that.

I recently rediscovered an old bottle of Rum that my wife and I found 20 years ago while cleaning out my father-in-laws apartment shortly after his passing. It contains the name Ron Superior DE Lopo, Alvarez y CA Compania Licorera de Cuba, SA. The label also shows that it was 45 years old. The bottle remains unopened, and has all of its original stamps. Not sure if its collectible, or maybe I should open it and try it? Not sure how long my father-in-law had it before we found it. Looking forward to meeting and chatting with the members of this forum. Also, hoping for suggestions as to which Rum brands are recommended for me to enjoy now that i have the time.

Welcome to the forums. Some of my favourite brands include El Dorado (Guyana), Barbancourt (Haiti) and Westerhall (Grenada).

Smile Nice site.

Hello,

Both, my wife and I have enjoyed RUM for many years - dark and flavorful. On a visit to PR, had the opportunity to visit Baccardi, and upon asking for "just straight RUM", I was invited to try the private stock - black as the ace of spades. Excellent. Have looked for years for the recipe for NAVY GROG as offered by KonaKai in Chicago with no results - just five rums mixed in a large glass. Maybe some day I'll find it.

Default Rum

Hello all,

Now that I'm retired, I plan on experiencing many new things. I've never had the opportunity of trying Rum, but I plan on giving it my consideration. I'll stay in touch and report back as to my findings.

Best,
Mike
