Talking No longer do I have to pretend I like Scotch

About 3 months ago I walked into the Rumba in Boston with 2 rum fanatics. We'll call them JH and TM. I was quietly dreading having to drink rum with no mixer on the rock. Memories of shots of Bacardi 151 from college was flying through my brain.

"Ron Zacapa XO" JH said to me. "Its one of our favorites." I ordered but when it came I waited several minutes before I took my first sip. Hoping it wouldn't burn too bad. Praying I wouldn't start to gag because the smell would remind me of a morning after too many shots of 151. *sip*

Suddenly....everything seemed right with the world.

"Stop!" I yelled. "We have to stop for a second and talk about how good this rum is." They smiled and just nodded because they knew they had turned me on.
"I'm not kidding." I insisted. This is fantastic.

3 months later and here I am. I have a collection of about 10 bottles so far am I am always stopping in every liquor store I pass looking for a hidden gem on a dusty shelf. I've had to tell myself to slow down, this can get expensive. But to paraphrase a users post: Rum will help you get through times of no money, better than money will help you get through times of no rum.

I look forward to being a member of this forum.

Haha! Great tale, sir. I believe a lot of us have been down that road. I couldn't drink rum for a lot of years because my first major alcohol poisoning as a dumb teenager at a party was on Bacardi white. I couldn't even smell rum for years after that without beginning to dry heave.

Then one day, several years back, a friend of mine got me off the wagon with some Mount Gay XO while we were out sailing and I was hooked. I can't believe I let so many years go by missing all this glorious nectar! I don't know what is about sailors and rum - history aside - but I'm glad they go so well together.

Cheers
