Default Cruzan Rum

I am enjoying the discussion and stories on Caribbean rum and I thought I would add my own . I was in St Croix in 1977 and went into a supermarket. They were having a promotional sale and in front of me was a stack of Cruzan white and dark rum for a $1.98 a bottle. At the time there was no tax on alcohol produced on the island. My friends and I stood there with our mouths open and then proceeded to dig out some dollars and quarters to buy several bottles. I can't remember much about how it tasted back then but I remember a beach ,some people, and some girls.....

Cruzan Rum.....a great place to visit and get a tour. I own some land on St Croix and hope to retire there one day. One of the things I like to do is visit Cruzan Rum and take the tour. I have recently become very interested in fine Rums. In the past it was always Rum and Coke. I didn't truly appreciate or understand the taste of fine Rums. Last time I was there they opened a barrel of Cruzan Single Barrel and gave us a chance to put our cup in the golden stream of Rum pouring from the barrel. I unfortunately was a BIG sissy and didn't do so because I thought it was going to be too strong. I now love Cruzan Single Barrel and realize what a mistake I made......
