Cheers; it's a pleasure to participate.
Hello to all.
I was recently turned on to this forum, accidentally, through a link on Cachaça. And I've got to say, this looks to be a great place to do some research.
I am a collector of rare and antiquarian books on the distillation of spirits, and have spent the bulk of my time on spirits other than rum, that is to say mostly spirits of 18th and 19th century France - but invariably, texts concerning this or that spirit, this or that ancient still manufacturer, have been coupled to, albeit brief, excursions on rum, tafia, etc. But up until now, my cup was running over... now I'm really wanting to fill the void, and venture headlong into rum.
A friend of mine exposed me to a pretty old rum, around four years ago... I was on a trip for something other-than-rum, but that tasting was an eye-opener. It proved to me that I was neglectful and needed to give rum an earnest pursuit.
So, now I've found this wonderful forum... I look forward to discussions further down the line, once I've had a chance to lurk and read senior member posts, old discussions and break the "Search" feature. If there are any french-speaking forumites, I'd like to send them some scans and texts to translate for the good of the forum... but only if that's something worth visiting and discussing.
Thanks, and Cheers.
