Default 17 Year Old

Ms. Spence, I have a question regarding a rum which I heard about when I was first introduced to the world of rum. I came to know (a little) about rum through the cocktails of Trader Vic and Don the Beachcomber. Much is written regarding the "17 Year Old Wray & Nephew" Jamaican rum that Victor Bergeron first used in the Mai Tai. Endless threads in various forums debate the taste and character of that rum. Can you tell me if this taste is lost to us, now, or are their current rums which can match its profile? Also, was this rum held in high regard back then and did it hold a place of distinction in the history of your company? Thank you!
