What about Arehucas Capitan Kidd Rum?

Hi,
I want to know if someone can provide a taste profile or opinion about this Rum from Canary Islands (arehucas distiller). I read that sugar cane plantations were very important in the Canary Islands and most of the sugar consumed by Europe was imported from these Islands.

Is this dark Rum a good choice to buy?...

I just spent 3 weeks in Tenerife and tasted several Rums from Arehucas. However, the below mentioned seems to be a Rum with very exclusive and unknown. Someone told me that a bottle costs more than 100 Euros (140 USD). Too expensive for my budget. Instead, I bought a bottle of Arehucas Reserva Especial for 11 Euros and could say it is an excellent cost-value...12 years old and nice dark color.

There are several rums distilled and bottled by Arehucas but I haven't had the opportunity to try them. From what I've heard from sailing friends heading back to Europe from the Caribbean is that some of them are a good value, and most distillers have a bottle of very expensive rum for the captain who has to have it. Their honey flavored rum (http://ministryofrum.com/rumdetails.php?r=304) is often requested but I haven't had made a reliable contact at that distillery.

A surprising thing I found in both Tenerife and La Gomera islands is a very important presence of Santa Teresa Reserva Especial rum from Venezuela. Based on market shelf space and bars that I've visited this is the most popular imported rum over there. First place in the market is owned by Arehucas Oro (yellow label)...a 9 euro bottle rum of a great value.

Too expensive and I would say too much risk to buy it without references. I saw it and simply did not buy because lack of references. In fact, I have placed the question here an nobody knows.

Speaking of honey rums. I can recommend the following: Ron Miel Cocal, Guajiro Ron Miel Canario and Ron Miel Artemis. They can all be found on Tenerife.

An additional one from Arehucas with honey is Ron Guanche...I tasted and it is too sweet for me.

I know Capitan Kidd Rum. I can say you that this rum is, for me, very good. Flavour of coffee and cocoa, with a bit of oak wood, but never too hard.

This rum is different from Caribbean rums. It's make with a blend of Agricole rum (made by sugar cane juice) and industrial rum (made by sugar cane molasses), all from Canary Islands, that it's one of oldest places where sugar cane was planted.

It's too expensive, and I think that it's much better to buy a bottle of Arehucas Reserva Especial 12 years. That cost between 35 - 45 euros, for the best quality bottles.
In Canary Island, you can find bottle for 12 - 20 euros, but there are dedicated to local market, and the quality is poor.

I enjoy the Arehucas. I agree, the bottle is too pricey and not worth it. I dont have a very good palate, but I can tell you that it finishes poorly, and requires an ice cube or two to smoothen it out. I did a blind taste test with that and the 12 year old, and the 12 year old won! I think that bottle will be going for about $30/bottle when it acheives distribution to the US, compared to the approx. $140 for the Capitan Kidd. Ive got some if anybody wants to try it!

Yuit, Thanks for your quote. I totally agree with your comments. I bought a couple of bottles of Arehucas Reserva Especial 12 years and it was 11 euros each (extremelly good value I consider). Also, in expensive market chanin like El Corte Ingles the price was 13 euros. It is a good taste...definetly some kind different vs. the venezuelan rums I am used to taste.
