A local liquor store owner talked up this rum as "like Captain Morgans, only better ..... you can sip it straight without Coke" So I tried it today.

Yuch. Oh my God.

What IS that smell/taste????? Wait, it reminds me of something from childhood .... a bad tasting candy, or maybe a solvent I used in art-class in 3rd grade to clean up paintbrushes. Licorice? Is that it?

Does anyone "sip it straight without Coke"? If anyone wants mine, I'd be happy to part with the bottle; I really don't even like to look at the bottle.

I recently saw that rum in Chicago and was a little surprised myself. Maybe someone else found it to be more to their taste.

I'm surprised that neither of you liked Kilo Kai. I recently tried it and I thought it tasted like vanilla and caramel. I can't stand black licorice, so I definitely would have noticed if that was an overpowering flavor??? I was a Captain Morgan drinker but have been ordering Kilo Kai instead and I think it's a great product.

I've got it

Kilo Kai is a alcoholic version of "Good n Plenty" gummy licorice candies.

Could of sworn I saw a thread on this stuff a while back, but can't find it now.

I was over in Peoria, IL and I "visited" several establishments last night. I can see the local distributor is really pushing Tommy Bahamas as every bar but one has a bottle of white and gold prominently on display behind the bar.

Three of the places also had Kilo Kai. I think the disty is out of Chicago, so seeing it in Peoria was not such a surprise.

The taste however, was.

Best way to describe this... children's robitussin cough syrup in a cherry flavor with a bit of a bubble gum finish.

Interpret that one how you wish - my thoughts... Not So Good!

It is fairly smooth, you could sip it or shoot it, and has a fairly pleasant mild long burn at the end, but the taste- brings back not-so-good childhood memories!

The search features of this software isn't the best but I by searching "Kilo" in the dropdown box under Search above I was able to find the old thread and moved your comment to the existing thread.

OK, I know this is resurrecting an oldie (and, not all that compelling to most... ). But, I just had Kilo Kai and I don't think it's bad, at all. Now, let me say that I would not call it a spiced rum, but, more like a rum based cocktail. Very sweet, absolutely no licorice or anise, though. Vanilla and a hint of cherry. When I drink this I think of it more like I do Southern Comfort. While I am not a newly converted #1 fan of Kilo Kai, I think it's made with a high quality rum and will definitely find its way into some of my cocktails. BTW, I would say the exact same thing about Southern Comfort. This is not a product for anyone which detests sweet or sugary in their glass. glass.gif

I was drinking Kilo Kai with 7up at Barney's Beanery in Pasadena. It was great...it tasted just like cream soda. Btmup.gif

I was not a fan of spiced rum, but now I enjoy them as well as non spiced. I "discovered" Kilo Kai at my boat marina's bar... Very pleasant. I bought my first bottle this week... I love Anniversario from Venezuela and this is from that "Neck of the Woods"....
