I've been told that these are hard to find and expensive - and it seems there are only a few left in my market. However, the prices are quite high; Reserve Speciale USD 128,- , and two vintages: a 1992 for USD 284,- and a 1997 goes for USD 192,- .

I've never had a rhum agricole before and was wondering if I should try one of these as they are hard to find and possibly soon unavailable in my whereabouts. Is it a good idea or are these rhums simply not worth it?

Cheers!

If you've never had rhum agricole before I would suggest trying something which is less expensive. The J. M rhums are good but unless you appreciate the flavor profile of rhum agricole I wouldn't start there. It's rather like buying a car before you know how to drive.

Thanks for the fast reply:)
Sounds like a good advice, maybe I should go for Saint-Etienne Rhum Vieux, Clément Rhum Vieux or Trois Rivières 1996? They're certainly less expensive.

Edit/added: took a chance and ordered the Trois Rivières 1996! Very excited about this one :)

Cheers!

As adviced I didn't buy any of the J.M ruhms and instead I went for the Trois Rivieres 1996 vintage. Picked it up today and looking forward to tasting it.
