Im joining the Royal Navy soon. Im a sucker for the sentimental, and i love Rum. I was thinking of buying a really decent bottle of rum to save, to look forward to for retirement.

But i dont know what to buy at all. Iv only really bought from supermarkets, i like Woods100 but i want to spend a bit more. Around £70.

I want something really warm, and spicy. Like woods 100 but at 40% and "better".

Sorry for my apparent ignorance.

If you're looking for something to put away for 20 years or more. I'd look for a screw top and accept that rum isn't going to get any better in the bottle. I'd look for something like a Jamaican rum. Besides growing older your tastes will probably change over the years, but I sure like the thought of putting something away for the future.

What about Black Tot? Expensive yes, however the perfect bottle for someone that will retire from the Royal Navy.

English Harbour 10 years should make the job. LOL

For the price range that you are looking for, I'd take Ed's suggestion and go with something Jamaican, such as the Appleton Estate 21-year. At the current exchange rate, that should be roughly $61 GBP.

Congratulations on your upcoming service, and good luck! :)

Slightly off topic but I have a 1971 The Macallan Anniversary Malt 25 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky bottle that I bought 13yrs or so ago. I was collecting a few different bottles back them and the wife has since drunk them but this one was too pricey so it's sitting in my wine cellar waiting for....?

My mistake to the OP. I didn't see what you were looking to spend.
