Someone made a post in a whisky forum where I participate about a new line of rums made available from a company called The Renegade Rum Company - which is apparently owned by the same people who are in charge of the Bruichladdich whisky distillery/Murray McDavid (independant bottler) .
I wonder how rum lovers will react to the "ace-policy"/cask finishes" they add to the rums though. Any thoughts?

Here's the website:

Looks interesting. They seem to be using casks from some of the most prestigious wineries in France. Looking at about $60 to $70 US. I would love to sample these rums, but it would be hard to buy at those prices, plus shipping, even if they would ship to the United States. I am very interseted in the different types of wood casks used in aging, and hope to find the time to research this. The fact that they might be using old wine casks is very interesting.

I expect to see more and more of this kind of rum, private labels with unique finishes. I've tasted some very good pre-production samples. But like finding great deals on closeouts and special promotions, if you find something you really like don't hesitate to stock up on it. Due to the cost of transportation, handling, aging small quantities in unique barrels and distribution these offerings are often limited to very small quantities.

On this subject, Doorly's XO (http://ministryofrum.com/rumdetails.php?r=735), an aged Bajan rum finished in Orolosso Sherry barrels is a good example of what is being done in the islands without blowing the budget.

I saw a few posts on this over at Rum Pundit.

Most recent one is here (http://www.rumpundit.net/?p=143).

We do pretty well with the Murray McDavid rums- peaty flavor appeals to the Scotch drinkers, and these look to be just about identical in cask, proof, and style.

I think this is my first post, which is a strange thing to pipe up about. Been lurking for ages, and will start contributing more. I'll be at CVI tomorrow and will see if they have these yet.
