A well-meaning but misguided friend recently gave me bottles of Cruzan Lime, Coconut, and Raspberry. I can make a passable rum and coke with 2 oz. of Gosling Gold, 1 oz. Cruzan Lime, and 6 oz. Coke, but haven't yet figured out what to do with the other bottles, short of drain cleaning or re-gifting. Any suggestions?

I sometimes use flavored rums to top cocktails, a small shot of coconut rum on top of a pina colada makes a nice addition. But I have no idea what to do with raspberry rum, though it might be good over ice cream for dessert.

Don't throw away that raspberry just yet. My wife is an incurable tinkerer with flavored liquors and liqueurs, and just this afternoon picked up a bottle of raspberry rum for experimentation purposes.

I'll share the results of her experiments as soon as she has them.

What about some raspberry rum in a hot chocolate?

The Cruzan lime would probaly make a good addition to a rum sidecar.

Lime rum in a sidecar? Raspberry rum on pancakes? I've been adding a little dark rum to my pancake syrup for years, and a little rum to my morning coffee, when I don't have too much to do. This morning it's a little Brinley's Gold Vanilla Rum (http://ministryofrum.com/rumdetails.php?r=485).

Lime rum in a sidecar?

Since my wife is a sidecar aficionado, I have developed a wide range of variations based off of that. Most of my recipes are using rums instead of cognac. Some get pretty far from the original ingredients, but I try to hold close to the original flavor groupings.

Now I'll have to go get another cup of coffee.

Wow, some great imaginations going here.

Tiare's response got me thinking about chocolate / raspberry combinations, and then about trying Bailey's Irish Cream (one of my wife's favorites, which tastes a bit like chocolate to me) with a splash of the Cruzan Raspberry. The result is a bit strange, but potentially interesting.

We're having chocolate cheesecake for dessert tonight, and I think I'll pour a little on that, too.

My wife suggests a Godiva Chocolate liqueur with the raspberry rum.

Also you could try peach schnapps, raspberry rum, sweet & sour, sprite/7-up. She isn't sure of the proportions on that.

As they say... Haters. :)

I have some aged white rum with raspberries resting at the bottom of the bottle as we speak. They've been there for a few months now. When I get tired of looking at it, I can tell you exactly what I plan to do with my raspberry rum, drink it!

Well, the raspberry rum on the chocolate cheesecake didn't go over so well - perhaps too many competing flavors, and by the time you added enough to find the raspberry flavor you had a soggy mess. Chambord seemed to work a bit better, more flavor intensity so less soggy.

I am thinking that flavored rums poured over pound cake should work quite well, especially the coconut flavor. (Sort of a poor-man's Bermuda Rum Cake)

I did have some success making a "razz-tini" with raspberry rum. My friends (who were expecting vodka) said it was very good, and were quite surprised when I told them the truth later.

You can make a pretty potent and powerful "clear" fruit punch for parties using several of the different flavored cruzans and adding some of their white rum to cut down on the sweetness from the flavored ones. Give it a try at your next party...it has been a hit with mine.

That's a great idea.

I have used a touch of flavored rums in making "Creme' Chantilly". Essentially sweetened whipped cream, and have had great results..The fat of the cream, and the sweetness of the rum are an intoxicating combination. In all ways!..Use the cream as a garnish to all manner of desserts that call for such. When we make this last minute before serving..All our friends line up to get the leftovers.
