I was wondering if anyone has tried this Columbian rum? If so what did you think?

I just got a bottle of this. It has an interesting nutty flavor that I cant put my finger on. It has a short abrupt finish which reminds me of the Viejo de Caldas, but less sweet. Were doing a tasting of it at the bar tonight as a matter of fact... along with Ron Abuelo 7 anos.

The one I have is Ron Medellin Anejo 3 Years. It is a medium amber, dry, short finish, smooth enough on the rocks, not so good neat. Mostly I think of it as a decent mixer.

Just avoid traveling through Columbia with it. I bought mine in Peru. I had a stopover in Bogata on the way home. The army guy searching my luggage was very unhappy to see anything Medellin in my bag. He clearly had something against the cartels. He started to give me a hard time, going through everything, in detail asking entrapment type questions (I think), so I resorted to English, "I don't know that word." One of the other security guys talked him into laying off, but I got very nervous.

I have the 3 year old as well. Your story is why I am happy to have importers sell it to liquor stores in very much non-scary non-political New Jersey, haha!

Maple pecan was a favorite descriptor that came out of a tasting recently. I thought it was smooth neat or on the rocks.
