Has anyone tried the Ron Zacapa Cetenario XO 25 yr.? Saw it in the airport but couldn't pick up a bottle since I was not flying internationally.

It's a most beautiful spirit in a wonderful decanter. It's a darker hue, richer and more chocolatey than the 23 year old. Probably the most requested bottle to taste on our back bar.

Rich Woods from Floridita cracked open his bottle of 30 year old the other day which also tasted magnificent

Wonderful deep hued rum that gives off terrific floral and honeyed notes as it warms up. One of the best there is imho.:) Have you also tried the Ron Zacapa Black as this was said to be the best of the 23 year old and used to be available from a supplier we use in Germany?

How does the black label differ from the normal Centenario 23?

According to the publicity it is the best of the 23 year old. I bought a bottle a few years ago and was very impressed with the Black as it was definitely different to the 23 year old, darker and smoother with more floral notes, similar to the XO but not quite that good.

How is the dry to sweet level as compared to the 23?

Personally I found it slightly drier than the 23 year old but has more aroma and flavour

I have been a fan of the 15 and 23 year varieties for some time and have decided to look for other Zacapa rums to sample. I did a search and came across several mail order sources in the US including this one with "to good to be true pricing":

Is this not the XO that everyone raves about? I thought it was not available in the US.

Zacapa XO is now available in the US. As previously mentioned, the XO is a bit drier than their Gran Centenario Solera 23, it is also slightly less sweet.

The XO isn't just the Solera 23 Gran Centenario aged another two years but is a different blend of aged rums from the Zacapa warehouses. Both of these rums are made from the same raw material and distilled the same way but are different blends.

Is the Zacapa Etiqueta Negra available in the US or will it ever be available? I seen a review of it and I'm interested.

My understanding is that the Etiqueta Negra was made specifically for the Italian market, although I have also seen it in France, Spain and Luxembourg.

I researched this sometime last year and don't have my reference links, but I believe this special market version of the Z23 was a casualty of the marketing agreement with Diageo. Prior to that change it was primarily marketed to and through European cigar stores. Primary markets for this seemed to be Germany and Italy.

There still seems to be some in the system, but I do not think they are producing more under that label, as evidenced by not finding anything referenced on their website about it.
