View Full Version : Castro Rum from Venezuela

This is a pretty recent Rum in Venezuela. I have seen in the trade at least 2 year from now. I want to open this thread to start discussion about this young brand. To note, while Ed's database reports only one class of this rum I can say there are two types in the trade. Any comments please leave them here.

I remember reading an article about it a couple of years ago, but haven't seen it in stores. If there are 2 types and 1 is Castro is the 2nd Chavez? Only a light laugh and not to be taken to heart politically as I do not know much about politics.

Well that is a good analogy if we compare Castro Rum vs Chavez Rum...they both are made out of the same sugar cane...which is not the sugar cane and rum I would like at all. Chavez has not affected the Rum industry in Venezuela as he is more supportive to local production vs importing goods. Based on that I believe the Rum industry might survive over his communist thinking. I do not think he will kill Rum industry as Castro did in Cuba.

Thank you for the mention Fabio. I have only seen one label in the US and communication with the brand owners has been sporadic at best. Seems the spam filters won't let email get to or from these people very easily.

Please take a look to some pics of Castro Rum "Ron Oro de Indias"...premium version of Ron Castro de Venezuela.
Back text in the bottle claims:
"This Rum has very limited inventories and its reposition is very slow. ORO DE INDIAS (INDIAN GOLD) is a blend of aged and extra aged Rums from special reserves. ORO DE INDIAS is a truly jewel that should be enjoyed as new treasury from the Caribbean to the world...enjoy with scarcity of mind. THERE IS ONLY ONE CASTRO".
Price is about 35 USD. Extremelly difficult to find in the market. Maybe I need to follow what the back label says about scarcity...
Hope this helps. I promisse to provide a review if worth to do it...yay.gif
